It's tough to let go of such a
great friend. I could not have custom ordered a better horse. I have been torn
over selling Monke, but the decision has been made and he is OFFICIALLY for
sale. I have toyed with the idea in the past but never tried too hard to sell
him. 2010 is going to be a busy year for me.
9/6: Monkey wins the rodeo by 1/2 second. 8/16/09: Monkey qualifies for the 1D Shootout. We ended up 12 overall. 8/15/09: second go round: 18th in the 1D at the Summer Shootout with 844 horses running. Wins the Spencer, OK rodeo.
7/7/09 3rd in the 1D at the Tecumseh, OK barrel race. This was the first time I have run monkey in almost a month. I was proud of him. 6/13/09: 2nd place at the El Reno, OK rodeo 6/12/09 Caught a barrel to win the Noble, OK rodeo. UGh. 6/6/09: Caught a barrel to WIN the Jones, OK rodeo by over 1/2 second. 5/29/09: Monkey is 4th at the Lindsay rodeo. We were 9th on the ground and I never thought we would be able to get a check. This pen is the deepest I have ever seen. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th place at this rodeo were all won running third or better on the ground. I was proud of Monkey for showing his grit and taking a 4th place check despite our bad draw on the ground. He is one amazing horse.
5/23/09: Caught a barrel (just barely) to be 2nd in the 1D. Harrah, OK NBHA
Placed both days at his first rodeo back in Norman, OK. 2009. 2008: Barrel Racing Season 9/29: Monkey will be turned out today for about a month. Giving him a rest until there are some bigger shows with added money. May bring him back for the WPRA runs in Tulsa. This will also give me time to start my 2yr olds that have fallen behind. 9/20: Monkey wins 3rd in the 1D at the Shawnee, Ok barrel race. He slipped real bad going into the third barrel but made a nice recovery. 9/19: Monkey shows his versatility again winning the Kellyville rodeo. It was an itty bitty set up, with no run to the first and 3 jumps to the second, then a long haul to the third. You had to come in a side gate and I was hoping Monkey would realize how close the first was. We outran several of the top girls in the IPRA world last night and I and thrilled with my horse. I don't think I could have custom ordered a better horse. 9/13: Monkey wins the 2D at the Duncan, OK D&G barrel race along with a beautiful buckle. We were making a run to win the barrel race and I dropped my reins while running to the third barrel. I don't know how or why but I did. We went a bit wide and deep but our time was perfect for a nice paycheck. What a good horse. He can go from big outdoor pens with sandy ground, to itty bitty indoor pens with hard ground. Monkey is like superman, he can do it all. I am proud to haul him down the road in "MY" trailer. 9/6: I can't believe it but we hit a barrel to win the Mustang, Ok rodeo tonight. It's not only devastating because we hit a barrel to WIN the rodeo but we never hit barrels. Monkey is turning so hard that we just caught the first barrel leaving it. I was all the way to the second barrel before the first fell down. I thought there was a chance it would stay up, but as I ran across the pen I was looking over my shoulder and saw it fall to the ground. Oh, well. Guess you win some and you lose some. 9/5: Monkey wins third at the Mustang, Ok rodeo. It was an extremely tough barrel race. I tried a new bit on Monkey. I was looking for a little more set when we got on harder ground. Monkey runs so hard, and I try to be as light as possible. We have changed to a hackamore and so far so good. He is running harder than ever and snapping so hard out of the turns that he is leaving me behind. 8/30: After a disappointing run at Laze E we decided to run at the Sand Springs open rodeo. I have never run Monkey twice in one day, but he was up for the challenge. We went from hard as a rock at Lazy E to the sand dunes in Sand Springs. The ground was so deep that the second horse to run was struggling. I was praying the rain would come before slack because I was seventh out. Well, we didn't get any rain but we held our own. Monkey ran in there and powered through the ground like it was nothing. He won the rodeo by .3 tenths smokin a 17.0. I was proud of everything he did today including our run at Lazy E. As long as he tries I'm happy, we can't control the ground conditions. 8/30: Laze E Heartland Tour. I had people telling me the ground was not good before I every left the house. Monkey usually draws a check every time we run there so I decided to drive up there since I had pre entered the night before. Well first thing I see when I get there is a friends horse go down hard on turn one. Huh, maybe the ground is a little trashy today. Monkey gets in the ally heading to the first barrel and trips twice before ever getting there, now we were in the wrong lead. No problem, Monkey can handle it. Well, Monkey tried to set, dirt was flying and I was sliding right by the first barrel. I was there so long all I could thing was "That cost us some time." He recovered well and inhaled the second and third, although he was not getting out of his turns as quick as he normally does. We were 19th in the 1D with a less than perfect run. I was disappointed but my horse tried and that's all that really matters. 8/24: Monkey wins the Spencer, OK open rodeo. 8/17: Monkey Qualifies for the 1D Shootout Finals with our first go round finish of 4th. He makes a nice run to end up 10th overall. I was very excited to run against such nice horses and prove what Monkey is capable of. I don't get a chance to go to many big races so it's nice to excel when given the opportunity. With so many young horse in training I am unable to leave every weekend for days at a time. I need to stay close to home and take care of business leaving Monkey to run at the open rodeos around the house. They are always tough but the Shootout was a highlight. 8/17: 2nd go of the OKC shootout. Monkey runs the entire pattern with one rein to end up just out of a 2D check. In the allyway my right rein came unhooked. Thankfully I run with German Martingale reins so they kept the snap from whacking me in the head. Basically I was turning Monkey with rope pressure from the martingale. When I came out after my run I knew the rein was undone but did not know for how long. When I watched the video in slow motion you could see the rein dangling next to Monkey's muzzle. I couldn't understand why we didn't have as much snap as the night before but it all made sense after the run was over. He is an amazing horse and I am lucky to have him in my barn. 8/16: Monkey runs 4th in the 1D at the 2008 Summer Shootout in OKC against 866 of the best horses in the country. I am so proud of my boy. 8/9: 1st at the Choctaw, OK open rodeo. Winning it by .6 tenths. Monkey runs a scorching 16.4 with the next closest time being a 17.0 It was a smokin run. This horse is one of the GREATS! 8/8:3rd at the Choctaw, OK open rodeo. 8/2: 3rd at the Yukon rodeo with a miscalculation running to the second. But he tried as the ground was hard. Horses were slipping all over the place and one horse fell all the way down. 7/26 Wins the Chandler, OK open rodeo running bottom of the ground 7/20: 14th in the 1D at the WBR with over 900 entries (3rd run back) 7/12: Wins 5th in the 1D with 130+ entries (his first run back). 4-12: Placed at the Ardmore pro rodeo 4-12: Placed at the Mesquite pro rodeo. 4-5: 4th in the 1D. Heartland Tour. Chickasha, OK. 206 entries 4-4: 6th in the 1D. Heartland Tour. Chickasha, OK. 282 entries 3-30: Caught a barrel to win second at Tulsa Barrel Bash. 3-29 5th in the 1D at the Tulsa Barrel Bash 3-28: 2nd at the Bartlesville, OK open rodeo 3-20: 2nd at the Guthrie, OK rodeo at Lazy E. Monkey's first run of the year. 2009: I have started riding Monkey and he will be ready for the 2009 rodeo season. 2008 season results below:
8/17: Monkey Qualifies for the 1D Shootout Finals with our first go round finish of 4th. He makes a nice run to end up 10th overall. Horses were slipping all over the place and one horse fell all the way down. 7/26/08 Decided to run at the Chandler, OK open rodeo tonight. Of course I drew up bottom of the ground but that didn't hinder Monkey. He ran and turned to the best of his ability winning 1st place. He is truly a dream to own. 7/21/08 Today was Monkey's third run back since being laid off for 3 months with a cut on his foot. We ended up 14th in the 1D and there were over 900 entries. I only had 23 rides on him and had hoped for more. I was very proud of his accomplishments thus far in 2008.
7/4/08: Monkey is back and action and I have started legging him up. Look for us Sat night in Guthrie for the WBR warm up race, and Sunday for the main event. 5/30 Monkey's blood count is back up and we are just waiting for his cut to completely heal. He should be 100% in about a week but I will give him a full month to ensure he is feeling perfect. Monkey is enjoying being spoiled at my parents house right now, I don't think he wants to leave. 5/20/08 Monkey is healing well from the cut on his foot. He was pretty sore on that for a while, but now we are just making sure he has sufficient time to heal. He will be back and ready to run in a few weeks. 5/10/08 As if the abscess was not bad enough I found out Monkey had a very low white blood cell count. This comes from a horse that is fighting some sort of infection. He is on antibiotics and he will have the rest of the month off. I want to make sure he has sufficient time off to heal and get to felling better. Right now he is grazing on 60 acres being spoiled by my mom and dad. May: After a so so weekend I unloaded Monkey to find that he has blown out an abscess. We were just out of the money in Lufkin, and just had average runs at the other 2 rodeos. So, I have decided to let Monkey sit for a few weeks to make sure his feet are feeling good. He is really liking the green pasture and all the eating. LOL. April 17th: I placed 10th at Ardmore, OK WPRA rodeo and I think I was 4th at Mesquite. I was very happy with the way Monkey handled himself this past weekend. The ground was trashy and even though they tried to fix it we were still the test dummies the second time around. I just let my horse cruise a set for fear of getting us both hurt. At least we got our fees back. We are entered in Guymon, OK, Lufkin, TX, and Athens, TX coming up in the next few weeks. Steady checks will be okay with me. April 12th: I was placing at both Mesquite and Ardmore when we left. There is still another performance left. We had to run twice at Ardmore due to the ground conditions. The first 10 girls to run were given the option of running again because horses were tripping and once lady's horse went all the way down. When making our second run in 30 minutes Monkey was still flustered by the ground but he tried the best he could. The third barrel cost us the barrel race. Monkey slipped and my foot came right out of the stirrup and threw me off to the outside. I was trying to get back in the middle of the saddle and it made us blow off the 3rd barrel a bit wide. I am still happy with the Monkey man as he made 2 runs in 30 minutes and tried his heart out both times. He is worth his weight in gold. April 5th: Monkey was 4th in the 1D today with 206 entries. It was a very nice run and I was pleased with the way my horse worked. I wish I could have kept the reins in my hands around the 3rd barrel but Monkey turned anyway. Maybe I should run without reins more often. April 5th: Monkey was 6th in the 1D with 282 entries. We had a pretty nice run. A few bobbles was the difference between 1st and 6th but we will take it. A 15.260 was 1st and we were a 15.360. It was a tough barrel race. I just took him a little too soon at the first barrel and he was ready to turn. When I touched the reins he snapped back hard, and I had to move him out so we didn't skim the first barrel. No ones fault. Monkey was just working. This year is starting off nicely. March 30th: Monkey ran a smokin 15.036 but my big, fat leg caught the first barrel. I could not have asked him to work any better. He inhaled 3 barrels in perfect style. March 29th: Monkey runs 5th in the 1D at Tulsa. We had a really nice run, but I rode like a bit of a chicken. He was running hard to the first and I asked him to turn too soon. He worked his tail off even though his rider made a mistake. It was a tough barrel race with Risky Chris Former NFR horse running right in front of us. Lots of nice horses and good barrel racing. Can't wait to run tomorrow. March 28th: Monkey was 2nd at the Bartlesville, OK rodeo. Were off to a good start this year. It was so cold, but we toughed it out. The ally was about 200 feet long and Monkey wanted to run from the back of it. He turned a great first and second and tripped real bad on the backside of the 3rd barrel. The ground was getting deep but he handled it like the pro he is. March 22nd: Monkey was 2nd at his first rodeo back for the year, and his second run of the year. Great rodeo with lots of girls entered. Monkey was a little on the wild side, and really wanted to run. He worked good so I was happy. He just wants to please. He is my buddy and loves to run barrels. March 20th: Monkey was 4th in the 1D at his first barrel race in 5 months. Not a bad run for having the winter off. March: I have been riding Monkey since Feb. He is starting to get in shape and has lost a lot of his jiggle. His first run for 2008 will be March 22nd. He is really feeling good and we can not wait for the 2008 season to start. I will keep you posted on our plans. As of Jan 3rd 2008 Monkey is enjoying his rest. I plan to start riding him again around Feb. but that could change depending on our rodeo schedule. I have yet to pick up a Pro Rodeo News so I can see what's going on. It seems like Monkey gains 10 pounds a day. His belly could pop at any time. With plenty of grass and a huge round bale in front of him he never stops eating. Keep checking back for news and updates on Monkey and our "RODEO TIMES UPDATES." Below Line are runs from 2007 ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` I decided to run Monkey at a benefit rodeo in Sand Spring. It was a beautiful arena but the ground was deep if you were at the bottom of the drag. As luck would have it I was last out and they ran 10 girls. It was like running through quick sand. Monkey made the best of it and worked his butt off. He did sink a little at the third and trip but still ended up winning by .4 tenths of a second. He is a super horse to say the least. We won a very nice buckle and I could not be happier with my horse. 11/3/07 Winning the Sand Spring rodeo by .4 tenths. 10/18/07 4th at the Mustang jackpot. We just keep adding to his resume::::::::::::::: McKenzie Weirtzema and Little Monkey Boss are WPRA Reserve Youth World Champions! Just back from Alvarado where Monkey and his young rider McKenzie put on a great show. Mckenzie's mother Tonya called me about a month ago asking if they could use Monkey for the WPRA Youth finals in Alvarado. Finally I agreed and we decided that Mckenzie and Tonya should fly in at least a day early so McKenzie and Monkey could make a practice run. As chance would have it the Oklahoma rain set it and luckily we found a jackpot to hit. Making a great first run they were 3rd in the 1D with a 16.3 winning and McKenzie running a 16.4. They took a wide pocket into the first but made the best of it. The WPRA open and Youth finals were run on a regulation, standard pattern. Although there were not many Youth competitors they did prove to be able to hold there own with the big girls. McKenzie and Monkey ran a 17.12 in the first go round to win second. Only 6 competitors ran faster times that this pair and that includes the pro girls. They made a really nice run even though poor Mckenzie lost a stirrup. In the second go round they ran a 17.26 placing 2nd and ending up 2nd in the average. Mckenzie did an awesome job jumping on Monkey and showing him to his potential. Oct 23rd

1st go WPRA Youth World in Alvarado Oct 26th
2nd go WPRA Youth World in Alvarado Well we have just arrived back from our 10 days on the road. Monkey is handling everything like a champ. Getting a check at our very first pro rodeo was beyond exciting. Outrunning the best of the best including several girls in the top 15 and several former NFR qualifiers. We started out by placing 10th at the Rosenberg, TX pro rodeo, then moved on to Pasadena where we placed 11th. At Waco we ran just out of the money in the first go and caught a barrel in the second go. If we would have made a clean run I would have made the short go in 8th place. Waco: At this rodeo they take the top 12 girls back for a short go. I would have been 8th had I not hit a barrel. Oh, well there is always another rodeo. Waco 2nd go: We placed around 15th didn't count because we packed up to leave. Waco Pro-rodeo: 1st go 15th Got a little by the first barrel. Pasadena Pro-rodeo: 11th Rosenberg Pro-rodeo: 10 place. We certainly can't complain about our week but it could have been better. We started off by barely catching a barrel to win second at the Sulfer open rodeo. It was Monkey first run back since his break. Some pretty tough horses showed up but Monkey held his own. We then headed off to the Jud Little Barrel Bash in Ardmore. Friday night I had an average run and ended up winning the 2D, which was okay with me. I rode like a chicken. Saturday I decided to send my horses from the back of the ally (which I never do) and let him roll. I was going for first place and nothing else. Monkey rolled into the first and turned it in a blink, he ran to the second with his tremendous speed and just as he set to turn he over reached, trip and about fell on his head, putting us by the barrel. He got up regrouped and flew to the 3rd inhaling it in what seemed like no time at all. We ended up running a 15.4 and a 15.1 won the race. I was devastated when I left the arena, but I guess it comes with the territory. We are getting ready for our Pro-Rodeo road trip and debut next week. Wish us luck. 9/29Barrel
Bash: 9/28 Barrel Bash: Not our best run but Monkey wins the 2D against 400+ entries. 9/23 Sulfer: Monkey ran the 2nd fastest time but we caught a barrel. Not bad for having a month off. Monkey has been running solid all year. Out running the top ranked horses in the country along with former World Champions of the WRPA. We are getting ready to enter Waco, Rosenburg, and Pasadena pro rodeos. We have made it home and Monkey has had about 3 weeks of rest. Getting ready for the Barrel bash in Ardmore, and lining out the pro-rodeos we plan to hit. Monkey is looking and feeling good. Just a little legging up and maybe a warm up jackpot before we hit Ardmore. Monkey seems to be getting stronger and better with every run. We are getting ready to pack up and head home. We hit the last rodeo Monday night and I guess you could say we went out with a bang. Monkey has won the last 4 rodeos we have been to. We ended up winning Pond Hill and Chatham. The Painted Pony rodeo company gave away beautiful leather jackets to all the winners. What a nice incentive that was. We came to season Monkey to the performances and we did just that. He has seen it all. We have been to big, small, smaller, hard, deep, tracks, and fairs all in the last month. Monkey has shown to be the true winner I knew he was. Never failing to give me 110% at every rodeo no matter the conditions. Last night at Chatham we ran with some sort of ride sitting off the second barrel and the Farris Wheel sitting at a distance to the 3rd barrel, along with the ground being dirt at the first and third and stone dust at the second. I was more than proud when he ran in there and inhaled 3 barrels in perfect style. I think we are ready to hit the road and feel very confident in my horse. Everyone that meets Monkey falls in love with him. About 5 minutes before our run at Pond Hill there was a crowd of people gathered around to pet Monkey since he is so quiet. He just stood there and let all the little kids pet him. He just adores the attention. I have people come up to me all the time asking if that's the little sorrel horse that flys across the pen at all the rodeos. Monkey certainly doesn't hold anything back when he runs. I tell people: "He runs like his tail is on fire!!!!" Monkey will have about 2 weeks off and just rest in a large, grass filled pasture. NEW
9/3 07 NEW
9/1/07 We have 2 more rodeos to hit and then we head home. We have started the week off on a good note. Monkey won the rodeo at Painted Pony making a smokin run and running the fastest time of the entire year. Not bad considering it was probably the smallest pen he has ever run in. I think we are both ready for a rest. Monkey will get some rest when we get home. I'm sure he can't wait to hit the pasture filled with grass. Our next run will be the Barrel Bash in Ardmore. After that we will play it by ear. I think 2008 will be the year we hit the road pretty hard. I would love to run at some of the bigger pro-rodeos and just have fun. NEW 8/29: 1st at the Painted Pony IPRA rodeo. Another easy week for Monkey. We went to two rodeos and were getting ready to head home. I'm sure he is looking forward to some much needed rest. He is still running strong and we're taking home checks. Pond Hill was pretty muddy and Monkey is still getting used to the mud puddles. Don't think he cared for the one at the 3rd barrel. I can't complain, he gives 110% every run. NEW
8/26 NEW8/25 2nd at the Pond Hill IPRA rodeo. This week we took a break and decided to only run Saturday at the race for a cause and at the rodeo which would be held later that night. It proved to be both a good and devastating day. At no fault of my horse we won the run for a cause held during the day and with a slight trip caught the second barrel during the rodeo. We coasted out of the pen to run .3 tenths faster than any other competitor. Talk about consistency we ran the exact same time during the day as we did at the rodeo. Monkey is seasoning out well and I could not be more proud of his actions this month. Check out his videos below. Monkey 8/18 run for a cause 8/18 Pond Hill IPRA rodeo UPDATE: The month of August has been a good one for myself and Monkey. He has taken his rodeo career to the next level. We have been running on some trashy ground in the performance of the rodeos and Monkey is taking is great. What a horse!!!!!!!
